U.S.-Ukraine Peace Talks Commence in Saudi Arabia
U.S. and Ukrainian officials initiated peace talks in Saudi Arabia focusing on ending the war with Russia. The discussions are led by U.S. representatives alongside Ukrainian aide Andriy Yermak, while President Zelenskyy was present for a separate engagement with the Saudi Crown Prince.
On Tuesday, officials from Ukraine and the United States commenced discussions in Saudi Arabia, aiming to explore avenues for concluding the conflict with Russia. According to Reuters, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the importance of these talks in understanding Ukraine’s willingness to make necessary concessions for peace. He remarked that a ceasefire and resolution to the war require concessions from both parties involved.
Joining Secretary Rubio at the negotiations is U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. The Ukrainian delegation is headed by Andriy Yermak, a senior aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who, having met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will not participate in the negotiations.
The Ukrainian foreign ministry announced the commencement of meetings in Jeddah through a Telegram post, sharing a video that captured senior Ukrainian officials entering the meeting room. Prior to this, Steve Witkoff, former special envoy for the Middle East under President Trump, expressed optimism regarding the imminent signing of a U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement.
