Petrobras is seeking opportunities in Argentina, advancing offshore projects in Colombia, and planning exploratory drilling in Africa. Their focus includes exploiting gas from Vaca Muerta in Argentina, developing a significant gas project in Colombia, and drilling oil wells in São Tomé and Príncipe and South Africa.

Petrobras is actively exploring potential opportunities in Argentina while progressing with projects in Colombia and Africa, as stated by Sylvia dos Anjos, the head of exploration and production. At the CERAWeek conference in Houston, she highlighted the potential of gas from Argentina’s Vaca Muerta region, which could be transported through a pipeline connecting Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil.

Moreover, Petrobras is also investigating oil prospects in Argentina, as the company aims to replenish its oil reserves amid challenges with obtaining environmental licenses for drilling in Brazil. This international focus allows Petrobras to secure necessary resources while navigating domestic regulatory hurdles.

In Colombia, Petrobras is formulating a development plan for an offshore project that has revealed significant gas reserves amounting to 6 trillion cubic feet. The project’s success relies on securing the requisite government license, and it is anticipated that approximately 13 million cubic meters of gas per day would be transported to Colombia via pipeline.

In Africa, Petrobras anticipates the commencement of drilling exploratory wells in an oil block in São Tomé and Príncipe by July or August. Additionally, another area in South Africa is expected to undergo drilling in the second half of this year, marking a significant expansion of the company’s operations on the continent.

Petrobras is strategically diversifying its portfolio by exploring opportunities in Argentina, advancing its projects in Colombia, and planning exploratory drilling in Africa. The company’s efforts to secure gas from Argentina and develop its offshore project in Colombia reflect its commitment to increasing oil reserves internationally amidst regulatory challenges in Brazil. This global strategy underscores Petrobras’s objective of enhancing its operational footprint and resource acquisition.
