NamRA Successfully Collects N$3.4 Million via Whistleblower Hotline

The Namibia Revenue Agency has collected N$3.4 million through its whistleblower hotline, launched in 2023. The initiative addresses issues like tax evasion, with 60 reports received to date. The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has successfully generated N$3.4 million in revenue through its whistleblower hotline, which has proven effective in addressing tax evasion and other illicit activities. This initiative commenced in 2023 and became fully operational in May 2024, with the hotline managed independently by Deloitte Namibia to ensure transparency and accountability.
Since its inception, the hotline has received 60 reports concerning various serious issues, including fraud, corruption, and tax evasion. NamRA chief strategic communications officer, Yarukeekuro Steven Ndorokaze, emphasized the positive impact, indicating that N$15.8 million has been collected in assessments, with N$3.4 million recovered from three companies during November and December 2024.
Ndorokaze noted, “This milestone underscores the hotline’s effectiveness in serving as a platform for promoting compliance, ethical governance, and responsible tax administration.” He encouraged all taxpayers and stakeholders to actively utilize the Whistleblowing Hotline in their efforts to enhance tax compliance.
He further stated, “The public plays a vital role in upholding integrity and accountability within Namibia’s tax system by reporting suspicious activities.” To protect whistleblowers, all reports are handled with utmost confidentiality, allowing individuals to report anonymously and without fear of retaliation through a toll-free number, email, or website.
