India and Mauritius Strengthen Development Partnership with Key Initiatives

On March 12, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit, Mauritius. During this significant event, Prime Minister Modi proclaimed the enhanced record of developmental cooperation and capacity building between India and Mauritius, which includes several pivotal projects.

Among the projects inaugurated was the Cap Malheureux Area Health Centre and 20 High Impact Community Development Projects. The state-of-the-art institute, funded by a grant of US$ 4.74 million under a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding, aims to address the training requirements of civil servants across various sectors in Mauritius.

In a joint press statement, Prime Minister Modi unveiled several initiatives aimed at furthering bilateral cooperation. These include the construction of a new Parliament building in Mauritius, modernizing a 100 km water pipeline, and launching additional community development projects worth 500 million Mauritian Rupees. Furthermore, the plan includes training 500 Mauritian civil servants in India over the next five years.

Emphasizing the strong partnership that India and Mauritius share, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “The ties between India and Mauritius are not only bound by the Indian Ocean, but also by our shared culture, traditions, and values. We are partners on the journey to economic and social development.”

He acknowledged the collaborative efforts during challenges such as natural disasters and the COVID pandemic, reinforcing that the countries have consistently supported each other across various sectors including security, education, and healthcare. Modi highlighted significant initiatives completed swiftly, such as the Metro Express, the Supreme Court Building, and the ENT Hospital, which exemplify the successful partnership between the nations.

The collaboration between India and Mauritius marks a new milestone in their developmental journey, underscored by significant projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing public service and community welfare. Through such partnerships, both nations are advancing their shared objectives of economic and social development.
