During a recent meeting, Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji reinforced the critical need for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory as outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In discussions with US Deputy Assistant Secretary Natasha Franceschi and Ambassador Lisa Johnson, Rajji highlighted the ongoing Israeli occupation as a significant concern for Lebanon, as reported by the National News Agency.

Rajji expressed gratitude towards the United States for its mediation efforts in the release of Lebanese detainees from Israel and acknowledged ongoing support for the Lebanese army. In a separate meeting with Niels Annen, the Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Rajji reiterated that Israel’s immediate and unconditional withdrawal is essential for regional stability. He urged Germany to utilize its influence to facilitate this process.

He commended the Lebanese army’s performance in southern Lebanon under Resolution 1701, reaffirming Lebanon’s capability to uphold security along its borders. Additionally, Rajji addressed the situation of Syrian refugees, advocating for economic development in Syria and appealing to European nations to support the repatriation of refugees by reconsidering sanctions.

Annen emphasized the necessity for Israel to honor Lebanon’s sovereignty, warning that non-compliance could jeopardize Lebanon’s stability and impede government initiatives.
