US Imposes Sanctions on Swedish Criminal Network Linked to Iran

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States is implementing sanctions against the Foxtrot Network, a transnational criminal organization based in Sweden. The announcement also mentioned the fugitve leader, Rawa Majid, who is directly associated with the criminal activities of the network.

The Foxtrot Network is reportedly involved in drug and arms trafficking, significantly contributing to elevated violence levels in northern Europe. This includes incidents of shootings, contract killings, and assaults, reflecting a troubling rise in criminal activities linked to the organization.

According to the State Department, “The Iranian regime leveraged the Foxtrot Network to carry out attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in Europe, including the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, in January 2024.” Furthermore, Majid is said to have collaborated with the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security, an entity already sanctioned by the United States.

These sanctions represent a continuation of the Trump administration’s “renewed maximum pressure campaign” targeting Iran. The move underlines the United States’ commitment to holding accountable entities that cooperate with the Iranian regime, thereby threatening the safety of the nation and its global partners.
