The “Affordable Fish” initiative in Morocco has successfully sold 2,150 tons of seafood since February 22 across more than 40 cities. This program, which aims to provide affordable fish and increase access especially during Ramadan, has mobilized over 400 visitors daily at sales points. High public demand is linked to trust in the quality of the seafood provided, checked by safety regulations.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has reported remarkable success with Morocco’s “Affordable Fish” initiative, now in its seventh edition. Since February 22, the program has successfully sold 2,150 tons of frozen fish at reasonable prices across over 40 cities, aiming to satisfy the rising demand for affordable seafood amid public outrage against inflated fish prices.

Initially, the plan outlined the distribution of more than 4,000 tons of fish, and sales points can now be found in major cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Sale, Fez, Agadir, Marrakech, and Dakhla. To ensure accessibility, mobile fish caravans are also reaching more remote regions, particularly during Ramadan.

The “Affordable Fish” initiative exemplifies a proactive approach to addressing seafood pricing concerns in Morocco. By expanding distribution points and improving logistics, the initiative not only enhances the availability of affordable seafood but also strengthens public trust in its quality and pricing. This effort comes at a crucial time, reflecting ongoing dialogues about fish pricing and market practices, underscoring the significance of direct sales to consumers.
