During his recent visit to Oman, Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with several Omani officials to discuss economic collaboration, direct flights, and the welfare of Afghans in Oman. Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi recently conducted a visit to Oman, where he engaged with several high-ranking officials, including his Omani counterpart, the leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, and the Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs. During these discussions, he addressed significant topics ranging from economic collaboration to the establishment of direct flights between Afghanistan and Oman, along with concerns regarding Afghan nationals residing in Oman.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Mr. Muttaqi conversed with Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Minister of the Sultan of Oman’s Office, seeking cooperation in matters related to Afghan prisoners in Oman. He advocated for the mitigation of prison terms and resolving consular matters for Afghans living in the country. In response, Al Busaidi assured that efforts would be made to grant amnesty for Afghan prisoners on notable occasions and to improve consular services for Afghan citizens.

Further discussions with the leaders of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Investment led to an agreement on enhancing regular communication between the respective Ministries of Commerce. The focus will be on boosting trade, developing investment opportunities, and facilitating the launch of direct flights between the two nations.

In addition, Mr. Muttaqi emphasized the importance of sharing experiences regarding mosques, Hajj practices, and Auqaf between Afghanistan and Oman. He also urged for assistance in constructing mosques within Afghanistan, to which the Ministry of Auqaf and Religious Affairs of Oman expressed readiness to collaborate with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Auqaf.
