Oman Celebrates First Medals at Special Olympics World Winter Games

Oman achieved a significant milestone at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin by winning its first gold and two bronze medals, with Hossam bin Nasser Al-Amri leading in speed skating. Oman has marked a significant achievement by winning its first medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, from March 7 to 16. The nation proudly secured one gold and two bronze medals, showcasing the talent and determination of its athletes.

Hossam bin Nasser Al-Amri excelled in speed skating, bringing home the gold medal. Additionally, Al-Bara bin Malik Al-Batashi achieved a bronze medal in cross-country skiing, and Ritaj bint Sultan Al-Salmiya earned a bronze in speed skating as well.

In expressing his joy, Hossam Al-Amri conveyed heartfelt gratitude toward his coach for their steadfast support, emphasizing the pride he feels in representing Oman internationally. His coach, Safwan bin Abdullah Al-Balushi, highlighted the extensive dedication and training that facilitated Hossam’s success, alongside the athlete’s character development.

Faisal bin Hamoud Al-Harassi, Deputy Head of the Delegation, stated that these medals reflect the dedication of both the athletes and coaches. The Omani Special Olympics delegation consists of six athletes with intellectual disabilities, alongside six coaches and four administrators, who are participating in events such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and speed skating at the Turin 2025 World Winter Games.
