Muhammad Azeem Misses 60-Metre Final at NCAA Indoor Championships

Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi finished seventh in the NCAA 60m preliminaries, missing the finals. His time of 6.61 seconds placed him 13th overall. Previously, he set a national record of 6.56 seconds. The Malaysian Athletics Federation views this experience positively for his future endeavors.
Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, a national sprinter, could not qualify for the finals of the 60-metre event at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Virginia, USA. In the second preliminary round, he finished seventh with a time of 6.61 seconds, placing him 13th overall among 16 competitors. Only eight runners from the heats advanced to the final stage scheduled for Saturday (Sunday, Malaysia time).
Earlier this month, the 20-year-old athlete had excelled by setting a new national record of 6.56 seconds while earning a bronze medal at the 2025 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. This record improved his previous best of 6.60 seconds, achieved at the Tiger Paw Invitational Championships at Clemson University, California, in February. As a result, he has entered the top 10 runners at Auburn University.
Robert Ballard, the technical director of the Malaysian Athletics Federation, expressed optimism regarding Azeem’s performance. He noted that qualifying for the NCAA Championships is a promising achievement, indicating Azeem’s future potential. “He did everything to make it to the NCAA championships finals. Running 6.61 seconds in a major event is a real positive sign for future things to come. Muhammad Azeem was just 5/100th outside the top eight for the final,” Ballard stated.
In summary, Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi’s attempt to reach the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships final fell short, as he placed 13th with a time of 6.61 seconds. Nevertheless, his recent performance, which included setting a new national record, signals a strong potential for his future in athletics. According to the Malaysian Athletics Federation, this experience marks a significant step in Azeem’s career.
