Israel and Argentina Commemorate 33 Years Since Embassy Bombing

Israel and Argentina will hold a memorial event to honor the victims of the 1992 Israeli embassy bombing, which killed 29 people. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, and recent developments confirmed Iran’s involvement. The embassy’s new campaign aims to tell the victims’ stories, emphasizing remembrance and resilience.
On Monday, Israel and Argentina will commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the tragic bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, which took place on March 17, 1992. This heinous attack resulted in the loss of 29 lives, including three Israeli embassy personnel, six local staff members, and numerous Argentine civilians, among them elderly residents from a nearby nursing home and children in transit on a school bus. Hezbollah subsequently claimed responsibility for this devastating act of terrorism.
In remembrance of the lives lost, the embassy has initiated a campaign titled, “Every View Has a Story. Every Story Deserves to Be Told.” This memorial event will be held at the original embassy site and seeks to honor the victims while shedding light on their personal narratives. The embassy’s promotional video poignantly emphasizes, “Through the eyes of survivors and families, we remember the tragedy and honor their stories. Each gaze holds a unique tale, filled with suffering, resilience, and hope. Today, more than three decades later, these gazes ask us not to forget.”
In April 2024, an Argentine federal court officially designated Iran and Hezbollah as the key orchestrators of the bombing, confirming that they had organized, planned, financed, and executed the attack. The court implicated numerous current and former Iranian political and military officials, some of whom had been granted diplomatic immunity at that time. Additionally, it alleged that several Argentine officials were involved in evidence tampering to obscure the truth of the assault.
Following the identification of Iranian and Hezbollah’s involvement, Defense Minister Patricia Bullrich disclosed that Hussein Ahmad Karaki was the mastermind behind the attacks. She described him as the head of Hezbollah operations in Latin America, holding responsibility for multiple terrorist acts over the years.
The commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the Israeli embassy bombing in Buenos Aires serves not only as a solemn reminder of the victims but also highlights ongoing efforts to seek justice and accountability for this tragic event. The acknowledgment of Iranian and Hezbollah’s involvement marks a significant moment in the ongoing struggle to confront global terrorism. Through initiatives like the memorial campaign, the stories of the victims continue to inspire resilience and remembrance amidst tragedy.
