As Eid Al Fitr approaches, Jordan’s clothing and footwear sales are currently low due to reduced purchasing power. Investors anticipate a rebound as salaries are paid, leading to increased market activity. Despite challenges, preparations for the holiday are in place, and improved sales are expected during the festive season.

As Eid Al Fitr approaches, sales of clothing and footwear in Jordan are presently lagging due to diminished buying power, even with stable pricing. Traders anticipate a resurgence in sales as salaries are disbursed, prompting increased consumer activity in the weeks leading up to the holiday.

According to Asaad Qawasmeh, an importer and member of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, current demand remains below average, attributed to the public’s limited purchasing capacity. He expressed optimism that demand will surge in the final week of Ramadan despite concerns about market saturation due to seasonal overlap, as winter apparel discounts coincide with the introduction of summer collections.

In the first two months of 2025, Jordan imported JD45 million worth of ready-made clothing and JD14 million in footwear, primarily sourced from countries such as China, Egypt, Turkey, Europe, the United States, and other West Asian nations. Munir Dayeh, an importer and wholesaler, remarked that commercial activity remains subdued relative to previous festive seasons, though preparations for Eid have been completed with an adequate supply of goods at competitive prices.

Ihab Qadri, a representative from the Jordan Chamber of Industry, indicated that the market activity is comparatively stable, as facilities are prepared to meet anticipated demand during the holiday period. Overall, while the current sales figures may be low, the upcoming Eid Al Fitr season is expected to invigorate the local clothing and footwear market.

In summary, although the Jordanian clothing and footwear sector is currently experiencing lower sales due to decreased purchasing power, expectations remain high for a rebound as Eid Al Fitr nears.
