President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC is actively offering mining opportunities to America as leverage for assistance in resolving the ongoing civil war.

In a letter disclosed by the Wall Street Journal, Tshisekedi stated, “Your election has ushered in the golden age for America. Our partnership would provide the U.S. with a strategic advantage by securing critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, copper and tantalum from the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
