Vice President Jeremiah Koung endorsed Samuel Kogar for the April 2025 Nimba County by-election following the death of Senator Prince Johnson. Koung urges unity among local communities, emphasizing the Dan people’s right to participate in the election. His endorsement clarifies his political stance after earlier hesitations regarding support for candidates.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung has officially endorsed Samuel Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) for the upcoming Nimba County by-election on April 22, 2025. This election is necessitated by the death of prominent Senator Prince Johnson, the MDR founder, in November 2024. Last week, the National Elections Commission announced eight preliminary candidates for this election.

In a simulcast telephone address through community radio stations, Vice President Koung expressed his confidence in Kogar, asserting that he possesses the qualities needed to succeed Johnson. He also noted his support for another candidate, Mack Gblinwon of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), in a separate election. “I believe Kogar has all it takes to replace the late Johnson,” stated Koung.

Additionally, Koung urged the Mah people of Nimba not to oppose the Dan people’s participation in this by-election. He emphasized the importance of maintaining balance within the county’s representation, appealing for unity to ensure stability. “Let’s keep our county together and it will be in our interest,” he urged.

Koung’s endorsement confirms his support for Kogar, resolving previously perceived uncertainties regarding his political alliances after choosing not to endorse any candidate in a prior by-election, which followed his appointment as vice president.

In conclusion, Vice President Jeremiah Koung has reaffirmed his commitment to the political stability of Nimba County through his endorsement of Samuel Kogar for the upcoming by-election. His appeals for unity among the Mah and Dan communities further illustrate his focus on balanced representation in the region, aiming to honor the legacy of the late Senator Johnson.
